Abstrakt

Do niedawna uważano, że na ryzyko wystąpienia zaburzeń erekcji wpływa głównie wiek pacjentów. Dostępne wyniki badań epidemiologicznych pozwalają stwierdzić, że choć częstotliwość występowania zaburzeń erekcji rośnie wraz z wiekiem, to ostatnio odsetek młodych mężczyzn cierpiących na wspomniane zaburzenia wzrasta. Co więcej, spodziewa się tendencji wzrostowej w tym zakresie. Jest to tym bardziej niepokojące, że czynniki leżące u podstaw tego zjawiska nie są dokładnie poznane. Niniejsza praca ma na celu zwrócenie uwagi na problem zaburzeń erekcji u młodych mężczyzn poprzez opisanie mechanizmu erekcji, czynników predysponujących do powstawania zaburzeń oraz skali problemu. Całość rozważań jest wzbogacona o aspekt diagnostyki i leczenia zaburzeń erekcji na podstawie aktualnych zaleceń.

Abstract

Title: Erectile dysfunction in Young Men

Erectile dysfunction has traditionally been considered a disease of old age. In fact, results of epidemiologic studies suggest a growing incidence of erectile dysfunction in men above 40 years old, however the number of young men suffering from the mentioned condition is disturbingly rising. Furthermore, it is predicted that this increasing trend will continue. The exact causes of erectile dysfunction are yet to be assessed. The aim of this review is to provide insight into erectile dysfunction by describing the mechanism of penile erection as well as factors known to impair it. Moreover, the results of epidemiologic studies concerning this topic and the aspect of diagnosis and treatment are presented.
